Dr. Denton Cooley is world-renowned as the first doctor to perform a successful heart transplant in the U.S., and the first cardiovascular surgeon worldwide to implant an artificial heart. His legacy not only encompasses the positive impact he had on his patients’ lives, but also his innovation in creating the first and most successful prospective bundled payment program in America.

CVCP submitted the first proposal for a bundled payment program to HCFA (the precursor to CMS), which was denied

CVCP's second submission for a bundled payment program to HCFA was accepted, and they became one of 7 bundled payment sites nationwide for Medicare patients
